TICCIH 2008: 1ST CHINESE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE
at Chengdu City, The International Committee for the Conservation of the Industrial Heritage’s first conference in China. Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan Province, within which there are five World Heritage Sites: the Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area (1992), Jiuzhaigou Valley Scenic and Historic Interest Area (1992), Mount Emei Scenic Area, including Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area (1996), Mount Qingcheng and the Dujiangyan Irrigation System (2000), Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries (2006). Among which, the Dujiangyan Irrigation System is the ancient irrigation engineering, listed as the first Industrial Heritage in China, and located at the suburb of Chengdu City.
Besides the World Heritage Sites, in and around Chengdu City there are some typical industrial heritage museums and sites such as the Museum of Industrial Civilization, Museum of Printing, Museum of Traditional Paper Making, Museum of Shu Brocade, Museum of Jinsha Site etc. The city also has operating industrial heritage, such as local mini train, still running since 1930s up to now.
The Conference will not only show the participants the industrial heritage sites within and around Chengdu, but also open the exhibition hall to reveal the exhibits about industrial heritages in other cities over P.R.China. Conference participants are asked to register their interest in attending the Chengdu conference by 1 March 2008. Final registration must be paid by 1 August, 2008.
